Buddy

Although Buddy and I had met several times before
I wasn't sure that he'd remember me
Till the day fate put us together once more
and our eyes met and he lit up like a Christmas tree

His arms extended to welcome me in
With no trepidation I headed his way
My heart all aflutter, my face in a grin
He hadn't forgotten! What a wonderful day.

His arms enfolded me in a welcoming hug
And I snuggled right in, so glad to be there
He ran his finger through my hair with slight little tug
As we walked till we found that big empty chair

We settled right in, just him and me one to one
We talked and we laughed ignoring everyone there
And fell in love in that moment midst the chatter and fun
The joy in my heart was almost to much to bear

I sighed as he drew even closer to me
His head on my shoulder his warm breath in my ear
Then it happened, he pooped, all over my knee
His little face crumbled but he shed not a tear

I drew him yet closer and kissed his soft little face
I found him dry clothes and a clean diaper to wear
All the while giving thanks for God's loving grace
And a day I'll remember till the sun doesn't shine and God doesn't care.

  1. You are on a lovely roll! Your words are sweetly expressive Nana Shelli! When I first started to read the poem I thought you were writing about an old flame, then when he pooped, I looked at the title and then the light dawned! Quite creative. Keep it up!
