THE VISITOR
In the still of a cold winters night
We sit together in quiet repose
She casts a glow of heavenly light
As she strikes her soft majestic pose
Although she comes to me but once a year
I know beyond a doubt she will come
Her arrival my cause me to shed a tear
Or get so excited my brain starts to hum
She is the thread that weaves through my life
She's always been there through the good and the bad
Somehow her presence helps ease the strife
And when I sit by her, it's impossible to feel sad
We remember the days when I was a child
Her visits were much longer way back then
How we'd play dress up and mama went wild
Draping us in blue baubles and silver chains, so delicate and thin
We speak of old friends and loves gone awry
Of new friends we've made and those that we've lost
The changes we've gone through as the years have passed by
The things we hang on to that should have been tossed
We relive the years since my daughter was born
How they bonded from the very first time that they met
And she assures me there is no reason to mourn
She will visit her too, on that you can bet
And though her stay is much shorter these days
Our time together is so special to me
As long as I'm able I'll find a way
To brighten my life with my Christmas Tree
